Being a wardrobe stylist by trade, and now first-time mom-to-be, going through pregnancy has given me a whole new perspective on style. These nine months are filled with some of the biggest transitions and changes in a woman’s body. And it adds a whole new twist to figuring out what to wear, month by month. It can be challenging, especially when the temperature heats up in the summertime. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that one pieces & dresses have been my pregnancy go-to’s and I wanted to share some simple tips for dressing your bump for summer!

Dresses are absolutely essential to feeling comfortable yet cute during pregnancy. I’ve found that maxi dresses and fitted dresses (often referred to as body con dresses) can be easy to find and the most comfortable for the bump.

1. Simple, one-pieces work best

Say goodbye to zippers and outfits with snaps, hooks, and buttons. Pieces that work best have elastic, stretch, and/or are higher waisted. Maxi dresses, fitted sleeveless cotton dresses, and swing dresses are great for summer bumps.

2. Add simple, hands-free accessories

The Baby Tula Hip Pouch is one of my favorite summer accessories to add to my maternity wardrobe. You can wear the hip pouch as a shoulder ‘bag’ or crossbody bag during pregnancy, then again as a hip pouch after baby arrives. These make for the best kind of simple, on-the-go accessories!

3. Throw on easy layers

In the summer when the temperatures rise, wearing light pieces are the most comfortable option. If you’re heading out to dinner or an evening outing, something that makes an outfit fabulous is using the right layers to dress it up. A simple denim jacket or shirt that can be layered over a sleeveless dress is perfect!
