On February 5, Southern Türkiye and Northern Syria was destroyed by the worst earthquake Türkiye has seen in over 100 years. Our hearts are broken for the families and communities that have lost loved ones and are in the midst of so much uncertainty.
Tula has a longstanding admiration for OddBird as a woman owned company founded by a mother of 5, Ceren. OddBird got its start in Antakya, Gaziantep and Southern Türkiye and the generationally-owned weaving studios that Odd Bird works with have been left in rubble after the earthquake. Thankfully, they have confirmed their weavers are safe, but many are still searching for their friends and family in collapsed buildings and in crowds of mourning survivors.
We have made a donation through OddBird to support their efforts to provide their beloved community with resources.
Right now on OddBird’s website, you can donate to two trusted Search and Rescue NGOs in Türkiye; AKUT.Org Search and Rescue Association and Ahbap.org. Both have been vetted so you can be assured your generous donations are reaching those in immediate need.
If you prefer to donate directly to those charities, we have also provided the links below, however, due to this catastrophe being international, the donation process is based on bank wires which we know can be discouraging to those wanting to provide aid but feel deterred by the time-consuming process. So, we would like to volunteer as the middle man; to collect your donations and wire them through to the charities in larger sums, making the transaction seamless for our gracious community and assuring as much financial support as we can!
Any amount that you can spare during this devastating time is truly appreciated. We feel your love and compassion and thank you for your kind prayers in this time.
For those who prefer to donate directly, the AKUT donation page is here and Ahbap here.
With the sincerest appreciation,
The Oddbird Family
