This is what travel days look like when backpacking with two kids.
It’s hard. We carry a lot of bags (3 backpacks), push a stroller, and carry at least one kid. Before having kids, I’d move around sometimes every 2-3 nights. This time, I’m trying to stay places 4 nights (or more) for a little more stability.
babytula lite is always used on travel days, especially as the fanny pack doubles as my money belt 🤫

Two more days until we’re off on another adventure! This time, we’re flying from Melbourne, Australia to Athens, Greece. We are NOT looking forward to the flights and are even a little nervous about the trip because parenting is extra exhausting when you’re away. But we’re equally excited for all the memories we’ll be creating.
This photo is from our recent trip to the Philippines. Here we’re each wearing a baby on an empty jeepney in the city (it eventually filled up and we were squished next to people).

✨Old friends and new babies!✨
We had a lovely visit from Stacey at the thegmslinglibrarycic last week!
Stacy and I met 10 years ago when we worked on the Birth Suite at the Princess Anne Maternity Unit in Bolton. Having come from a more obstetric led unit and feeling like a fish out of water Stacy taught me so much about normality and how to watch and wait. ☺️🥰
It was great to see her and her little one who is now 6 weeks old! She chose to hire a babytula Lite carrier from our library stock and we think they look great! 😍

We’ve been away from home now for three months. We’re exhausted. Backpacking and travelling were my absolute favourite activities before having kids. I was so excited to go travelling after having Austin, but of course the pandemic prevented that. Now we’re finally doing it. But with two babies. And when I say it is hard. I mean: It. Is. Hard.
It doesn’t help that my newly 3-year-old toddler has high needs to get to sleep. This kid will just not chill. Just before we left to go travelling, he had learned to get to sleep all by himself. That has all been undone. Which would be fine except that the baby’s sleep needs have been changing and he requires more of my attention to sleep. Naturally neither will let dad get him to sleep ☠️🫠
Anyway, yesterday we had a few moments of bliss while both babies slept on us during a little walk (which was obscenely humid and hot, and frankly uncomfortable - but it felt remotely baby-free!). There are a lot of fun memories made with kids, but I cannot deny that we really do miss our kid-free adventures. 🥲 (swipe to last photo to see baby-free travel days some 9-or-so years ago)
(I’ve also said this basically every post and every day since our Philippines adventure, but thank goodness for our babytula lite and also our toddler soulslings carrier! Excited I picked up this Tula lite for travelling. I received this just over a week ago and it's quickly become an absolute favorite. It's extremely practical and lightweight, which makes it perfect for around town, travel and wearing in general.
It's so nice to be able to throw my keys, wallet, phone and more into the front pocket and then roll the carrier into the back portion when I don't need it.
With this carrier you can easily move from the front to the back! I love having the back carry option as it's my go to if baby isn't nursing or needing more direct cuddles.

No one told me how terrifying it would be to love as only a mother does. No one told me about how much it would ache.
No one told me about the joy that was deeper and wider that anything I’d known- and how somehow it hurt to feel that happy.
No one told me about the heavy weight of that love that would sit on my heart and make it impossible to breathe at times. How I would hold my baby to my chest and want to inhale her- not just that newborn smell, but some primal, unbearable desire to tuck her back safely below my heart — a desperate wish to keep her safe there forever.
No one told how I would hover over my baby at night, my eyes burning with exhaustion but unable to stop watching as her tiny chest rose and fell with each breath. How the adoration I felt for her would rise up from my chest and pour out of my eyes, buckets of tears I couldn’t explain.
No one told me how the love would swallow me whole.
How somehow my life would suddenly feel infinitely more fragile and fleeting.
How my own mortality would loom over me like a shadow I’d never seen before and make me want to stop time.
No one told me how giving birth would make me fear death in a way I’d never experienced- how I’d feel that my life was so tightly tied around this love that losing her would be worse than dying a thousand times.
How the strings that tethered me to this child would become my life line and how watching her grow and go out into the world would be the most terrifying beautiful thing.
No one told me how becoming a mama would open a door in my heart to a love I didn’t know existed.

The recommended weight range for the Tula Lite is 12 to 30 pounds. It is perfect for when your baby is being carried often in their infancy to early toddler stage.

When it's sunny and warm, you may be tempted to cover baby to shelter them from the elements. However, young infants especially need to be always visible.
The sleeping hood that comes on all of our carriers can be utilized to block a little sun by just securing one side and leaving baby’s face still visible. Do not fully cover a newborn. 🥰

It’s Earth Day, your Ima’s favorite holiday, and today like all other days I’m thinking about what the world will look like when you are older, what decisions we are making now that impact your future. I was raised by my badass mama as she was taught by native teachers and friends that we must always be looking seven generations ahead, and so I do this as well. I know that the fight for our planet cannot be divorced from our fight for justice, humanity, and the end of all oppression. Racial justice is environmental justice, is gender justice, is freedom... we are all harmed by the violence of white supremacist patriarchal capitalist colonialism and none of us will survive until we divest from white failurism. Being vegan won’t do it, putting women in politics won’t do it, fighting for gay marriage won’t do it, having a Black president won’t do it. Abolition is the only way out, and I dream those visionary dreams for you, Nava bird... and for all the mamas who have lost their babies and all the babies who have lost their fathers and for everyone and everything struggling under the same oppressive system. We fight, on Earth Day, for the planet, yes, AND for all beings on the planet to live and breathe and thrive... and so it is✨🌀 🌍 💛
