FAQs
At what age or weight should I increase to the middle or wide setting of the Original Baby Carrier?

The narrow setting can be used for newborns and babies at a minimum weight of 7lbs, approximately 0-3 months.

The middle setting can be used for babies 3-9 months of age, and the widest setting is suitable for taller babies 9 months and older. See Correct Positioning below.

Please note that these recommendations are guidelines and may vary depending on the height and size of the individual baby.

Correct Positioning
The width of the panel should be determined by the individual baby's comfort and leg span. The ergonomically correct position for baby is to be positioned with the base of the carrier supporting them from knee to knee, with their knees slightly higher than their bottom in an ""M"" shaped position. When choosing which seat width to use with your baby, choose the width that supports their legs in an ""M"" shaped position with their legs supported to the crease of the knee. If the edge of the panel rests on the baby's calves, rather than under the bend in their knees, then the width you have chosen is too wide. Always ensure proper placement of baby in the carrier including leg placement.
Can my baby face forward in the Original Baby Carrier?

The Original Baby Carrier is not designed to be worn with baby in an outward-facing position.

If you would like a carrier with the option to forward face, we'd recommend our Explore Tula Baby Carrier that allows baby to face in, face out, and be worn in a back carry.
Is the Original different from the Free-to-Grow?

No. It is the same carrier with a new name unless otherwise specified.
What positions can baby be worn in the Original Baby Carrier?

The Original Baby Tula Carrier is not designed to be worn with baby in an outward-facing position.

If you would like a carrier with the option to forward face, we'd recommend our Explore Baby Carrier that allows baby to face in, face out, and be worn in a back carry.
When can I back carry my baby in the Original Baby Carrier?

We always advocate for young infants to be visible and kissable in our carriers.

Your baby needs to be able to fit in the middle or wide setting of our adjustable base carriers to be able to back carry.

We recommend waiting to back carry your child until they have consistent head and neck control to both position them on your back and for them not to slump into a chin to chest position.

Your chest in a young infant’s natural habitat. Take in all those oxytocin snuggles with baby right under your nose. It certainly doesn’t last long. <3
When can I face my baby outward in the Original Carrier?

The Free-to-Grow Baby Tula Carrier is not designed to be worn with baby in an outward-facing position.
