This blog post is part of our "Love What You Do" series where we shine a light on the extraordinary things that YOU do in the parenting community. In this series, we interview the people behind exciting projects or beneficial services that help families in the postpartum or early phases of parenting. We hope by highlighting these people and their projects, you'll be able to expand your circle of support and learn important things as you and baby grow.
In this "Love What You Do" blog, we chatted with LOOM. We first learned about LOOM through following one of their founders, Erica Chidi Cohen. Loom stood out as a space that offered a wide variety of classes and events centered around body positivity and topics important to a modern family, led by diverse voices. Read on to learn more about Loom.
LOOM was founded, In Los Angeles, by Erica Chidi Cohen (Co-Founder + CEO) and Quinn Lundberg (Co-Founder and Chief of Social Impact). Erica is a doula and author. She is passionate about helping people cultivate body literacy and the tools to advocate for their reproductive health and wellbeing. Quinn is a mother and policy advocate who has also co-founded Growing Voices, a nonprofit organization working to support local leaders and community-based projects around the globe.
LOOM provides nonjudgmental, evidence-based education and support designed to empower people around health topics including:
- periods, sex, and birth control
- pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care
- parenting in the first year after birth
- pregnancy loss and abortion
- more: menopause is our next frontier!
BABY TULA: What makes LOOM and what you offer there unique?
LOOM: We meet people where they are and empower them to make well-informed decisions with regard to their general and reproductive health. We are huge advocates of body literacy for ALL because we know that knowledge leads to improved health outcomes.
BT: What motivated the creation of LOOM?
L: We felt the acute absence of a place where people, wherever they are in their reproductive life, could bring their whole selves and receive nonjudgmental support and modern, evidence-based education.
BT: LOOM offers the opportunity to learn and discuss very broad, inclusive topics. Why was it important that LOOM do this?
L: Because everyone, regardless of race, gender identification, sexual orientation, etc. , etc. should have access to support and education around the full spectrum of their health and reproductive processes.
BT: What do you hope your clients get from their experience at LOOM?
L: Our hope is that people leave LOOM feeling seen, heard, and held, informed in their approach to their bodies, and more confident in their decision making.
BT: How can people stay up to date with LOOM?
