Our Pride & Joy collection celebrating Pride Month has so much meaning to us as much as we hope it does for you. The collection was created in collaboration with our own queer Tula team members to ensure that it was presented from an authentic voice. Their voices were involved throughout the process of developing the products, messaging, and photography of the collection.
Check out are a few more elements that make the Pride & Joy collection extra special:
Pride Flag Colors On the Lining
When we first began planning this collection, we researched the Pride flag and what each color represented. We decided that we wanted to use colors that were inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community in a unique way. We used the inner lining of the carrier and select accessories to feature the colors of the Pride flag with the inclusion of a brown and a black stripe, as done on the 2017 Pride flag in Philadelphia, to acknowledge people of color in the LGBTQ+ community. We also included the pink, white, and blue colors of the Transgender Pride flag.
Embroidered Features on the Carriers and Hip Pouch
The Pride & Joy carriers, available in our Explore, Free-To-Grow, Standard, and Toddler styles feature a vibrant embroidered rainbow arc and the word “Pride” in the colors of the LGBTQ+ Pride flag. The Hip Pouch in the collection also has the embroidered rainbow arc. Embroidery is a feature we do not use often but it creates a beautiful vibrant design.
Limited Edition Pride Collection Enamel Pins
We were having so much fun designing the Pride & Joy collection, we decided we wanted to find a way for people to show their pride even when they are not wearing a baby carrier. So, we created five limited-edition enamel pins that honor and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. With each carrier order placed, you will receive a surprise pin as a gift with your purchase. They will also be available for purchase when the collection goes live.
A Portion of Sales Will Be Going to Family Equality
We are so happy to partner with Family Equality for this collection. 20 % of sales from each item in the Pride & Joy Collection will be donated to Family Equality.Founded in 1979 at the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, the organization that grew into Family Equality was driven by the same fundamental inequality that drives their work today: that caring, loving parents are being denied equal opportunity to form and sustain families because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
LGBTQ+ Families in the Pride & Joy Collection Photography
For all of our photoshoots, we work with real families. For the Pride & Joy collection, it was important for us to include a variety of queer families celebrating pride in the expressive joy of parenting. Some of the families we worked with have been part of past Tula photoshoots and some were new. They all helped the collection to life. We are featuring these families on our blog and social media soon!
The Pride & Joy Collection launches with a variety of carriers and accessories on June 4th, 2020 at 10 AM PT.
