The Tula Explore stands out with its ability to offer multiple carrying positions, including the popular front-facing-out position, making it ideal for curious babies who love to see the world. If you’re looking for a carrier that grows with your baby and provides flexibility, the Tula Explore is the way to go. On the other hand, the Tula Free-to-Grow is slightly lighter and simpler, perfect for those who prefer a minimalist approach. The Tula Standard, while needing an infant insert for newborns, remains a great option for parents who primarily plan to use the front-facing-in position and back carry.
How to Use Tula Explore
One of the Tula Explore’s key strengths is its versatility and ease of use. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to wear your Tula Explore in its different carrying positions:
Front Facing In Carry
- Adjust the Body Panel: Start by buckling the waist belt around your waist and then adjusting the width of the body panel using the snaps at the base of the carrier. This ensures a snug fit for your baby’s size.
- Place Baby in the Carrier: Hold your baby against your chest, facing inward. Place the carrier over your baby, ensuring their legs are positioned in an "M" shape to support healthy hip development.
- Secure the Carrier: Pull the shoulder straps over your shoulders and fasten the buckles. Tighten the straps to ensure a comfortable fit.
- Adjust for Comfort: Adjust the shoulder straps as needed and make sure your baby is close enough to kiss, their airways are visible, and their hips are in an ergonomic ”M” shape.

Forward Facing the Tula Explore
1. Prepare the Carrier: Adjust the width of the body panel to the widest position using the snaps at the base of the carrier, then tighten and buckle carrier around your waist. This position is best for babies with strong head and neck control, typically around 6 months and older.
2. Position Your Baby: Place your baby in the carrier facing outwards. Ensure that their legs are properly positioned in the "M" shape, with knees slightly higher than their bottom.
3. Secure and Adjust: Pull the shoulder straps on as described in the front-facing-in instructions. Make sure your baby’s chin is above the top of the body panel, and that their airway is clear at all times.

Back Carry
- Adjust the Carrier: Set the body panel to the appropriate width for your baby’s size. This position is best suited for babies who can sit unassisted, usually around 6 months or older.
- Position Baby on Your Back: Fasten the waist belt of the carrier and then, with the help of another person or using the "hip scoot" method, place your baby on your back. Ensure they are seated comfortably with legs in the "M" position.
- Secure and Adjust: Bring the shoulder straps over your shoulders and clip them to the sides of the carrier. Tighten all straps to ensure the carrier is secure and comfortable.
